In a world where children are spending more and more time indoors and less and less time being active, North Country School continues to promote a program of robust out-of-doors activity. Out-time is an important manifestation of North Country School's longstanding and core belief in getting children outside - every day, fall, winter, and spring - and keeping them physically active.
Out-time is our 3:00-4:30 period every weekday (but Wednesday) when students play sports, do work-jobs, and participate in active, outdoor activities. Students choose their own out-times from a selection that changes every day.
All are encouraged to take advantage of new opportunities to broaden their interests. Typical out-times include photography walks, short hikes, horseback riding, rock climbing, and alpine skiing and snowboarding, which are offered on our own ski hill. We also offer non-competitive, coed sports during out-time.
For students who enjoy competitive athletics, we offer team sports each season: soccer during the fall, basketball and Nordic skiing in winter, and Ultimate Frisbee in the spring. All teams are coed and focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
