North Country School welcomes students from a wide variety of backgrounds. We enroll children from countries around the world, children who have lived abroad, and children for whom English is not a first language. International students are active participants in the North Country School community and take part in all aspects of the academic, art, farm, outdoor, and residential programs. North Country School is authorized to issue I-20s for non-U.S. students.
International students are encouraged to share their cultural backgrounds with the school community through holiday celebrations, preparation of special meals, and presentations at formal events, such as the International Festival at Thanksgiving. Daily interaction with classmates, housemates, and friends, as well as classroom activities, field trips, and meals offer rich opportunities for cultural exchange and appreciation.
Both our domestic and international students benefit from our secondary school placement program in which 9th-grade students are guided through the process of selecting and applying to highly selective boarding schools for grades 10-12.
Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides support for students who need to improve their language skills. Students who are non-native English speakers are invited to submit TOEFL Junior, TOEFL iBT, and SSAT test scores as part of their application (TOEFL code B088). Once enrolled, our students are supported through TOEFL and SSAT preparation and testing.
As part of the North Country School application process, all students have either a Skype interview or an on-campus interview. Information about travel to North Country School is available on our Visit page. Please note that the closest major airports are JFK International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport.
To become familiar with North Country School, you may find it helpful to review our school calendar below. While international students may stay with families locally during our short Thanksgiving recess, our campus is closed for the winter and spring breaks. Before and after those school vacations, we offer transportation to and from JFK International Airport.
