Nordic Skiing

A highlight of our winter season is the opportunity for frequent Nordic (cross-country) skiing adventures. All children are given opportunities to participate, regardless of skill level or physical ability. Nordic skiing's well-documented benefits - a great full-body workout together with the promotion of a strong sense of well-being - are entirely in-line with North Country School's emphasis on getting children outside and keeping them active. With miles of trails, we can offer - on a daily basis - a robust Nordic skiing program without leaving campus.

For more competitive skiers, joining the North Country School Nordic team might prove an attractive option. The team spends the winter training for the Lake Placid Loppet, an annual, international event with 25K and 50K races.

Team members practice on campus trails and at the Olympic facility at Mt Van Hoevenberg, just three miles from our campus.

On the day of the race, the whole school volunteers at feed and aid stations along the course, cheering for our own and other skiers.
